Padeswood cement kiln is fired by alternative fuels, which are typically used tyres and industrial wastes
Emission Watch commenced a baseline study around the new kiln in February 2005. This was done on a sound scientific basis and the results are now permanently stored so as to provide a platform for study as the new kiln comes on stream and environmental circumstances change.
In July 2005 the new kiln came in to use and Emission Watch will continue to monitor the situation and make a careful and permanent record of readings taken around the plant. Monitors have been strategically placed around the new kiln in accordance with advice and are monitoring the particulate burden in the air around the plant continuously.
Emission watch has decided to place graphs of readings taken on its web site for the local population to view. These graphs have been simplified for ease of viewing. The graphs show the total particulate burden in the air and the amount of particulate up to PM10. The current statutory limit for particulates in the air is also shown as a continuous horizontal blue line at 50µg/m3. It should be noted that this statutory limit only applies where the particulates burden is more than 50µg/m3 over a twenty four hour average.
These graphs will be updated regularly.
Emission watch is also sending filters for analysis. Our policy is that if anything untoward is found on the filters the Environment Agency will be informed in the first instance and then the public informed via our web site one week later. These results can be found in the filter analysis results section.
