EXCEEDENCES
The National Air Quality Strategy requires that the concentration of Particle Size PM10 should not exceed a limit of 50µg/m3 averaged over 24 hours. The 24 hour mean should not exceed 50µg/m3 on more than 35 occasions during one year, and the annual mean concentration is limited to 40µg/m3.
Padeswood Locality Map

Emission-Watch records the average concentration of Particle Size PM10 every 15 minutes. When these 15 minute records show that the concentration continuously exceeds the permitted limits for a prolonged period, the full duration of such periods will be disclosed. We feel that this gives a far clearer picture of periods of pollution. The use of a 24 hour mean figure often effectively masks short periods of intense pollution.

The number of 15 minute exceedences will be published on a weekly basis.

Exceedences reported to the Environment Agency will be noted separately.

The Peak Concentration during a week will be published together with the wind bearing and wind speed for that time. The map below will help readers to establish the wind direction in relation to their locality. It should be noted that a very low wind speed or no wind speed at all can sometimes result in inaccuracies in the wind bearing reading.
